Weed Control & Fertilization

Healthy, green lawns can be the envy of the neighborhood, but they can also be a lot of work. If you’re hoping for a lush backyard or grassy area in front of your business, you’ll probably need to work on weed control and lawn fertilization. Whether you live in town, on the lake, or have a business in Willmar, we specialize in keeping your lawn healthy with weed control and fertilization services.

Weed Control for Grass
Our lawn weed control services will take care of unwanted weeds in your lawn, sidewalk, driveway, patio, or rock beds. We use a liquid spray for lawn weed control that dries within three hours, so you don’t have to worry if rain arrives later in the day. The weed control we apply will take care of crabgrass, dandelion, and broadleaf weeds, which are common weeds in Minnesota lawns.

We’re licensed applicators, so we ensure weeds are kept under control while also keeping safety top of mind. Having our experienced team work on lawn weed control for you means you won’t have to handle these chemicals directly. It also saves you time, so you can get back to enjoying our Minnesota summers.

Typically, we recommend spraying for weeds anywhere from three to five times per year from spring through fall. We customize weed control for each of our customers to make sure your lawn gets exactly what it needs. We provide customized quotes based on the square footage of your lawn.

For new customers, we’ll usually need one week’s notice to come out and spray for weeds or apply fertilizer. For existing customers where we’ve created a customized plan, we’ll schedule set times for our team to come out automatically.

Pre-emergent Lawn Weed Control
Another way to work on weed control is by preventing them from growing in the first place. In fact, combining pre-emergent with weed kill (or post-emergent) creates a more robust offense against weeds and keeps your lawn healthier.

Pre-emergent prevents weed seeds from germinating, which allows future weed control applications to be more effective. And, of course, it means fewer weeds to battle throughout the growing season.

Pre-emergent is usually applied in the spring, but it can be applied in the fall as well. For the most impact, you’ll need to apply pre-emergent before weeds have started germinating. Because it creates a barrier in the soil, the best way to apply it is after aerating the lawn, or after similar tasks that disturb the soil.

Lawn Fertilization
If fertilizer isn’t applied, your soil can become depleted of the nutrients necessary to grow lush, healthy grass. Eventually, that will lead to thinning and dying grass.

Generally, we recommend applying fertilizer from spring through fall to provide consistent nutrition to your lawn. That consistent fertilization helps stressed out lawns recover after a hot summer. Plus, it preps and fortifies grass for our Minnesota winters.

Our team applies a slow-release liquid fertilizer to add nutrients into the soil. Slow-release is best because it lets the lawn absorb nutrients over a handful of weeks. Other fertilizers tend to “burn” the lawn with a high dose of nitrogen all at once, which also means the lawn becomes starved of nutrients later on.

Just like with weed control, we create personalized plans for yard fertilization. It works best to apply fertilizer between 24-48 hours before it rains, so we time the application based on the weather forecast.  Once applied, you’ll only need to avoid stepping on the grass for the first 24 hours.

Benefits of Weeding & Feeding Grass
We offer weed control and fertilization separately, but it’s best to do both for the healthiest lawn. Getting on top of weed control and ensuring appropriate fertilization provides your lawn with the nutrients it needs to stimulate root growth. Plus, a lush, healthy lawn actually chokes out weeds which further aids in weed control. That translates to a healthy lawn that also looks great.
